PRISM X Destination Elevated Team Up for Inclusivity.

FOR IMMEDIATE PRESS RELEASE

PRISM & The 2024 Trail of Colors Hiking Tour Announce Fundraising Partnership to Provide Safe & Accessible Outdoor Spaces for BIPOC & LGBTQ Youth in South Florida.

North Miami, FL.  BIPOC & LGBTQ Travel Resource Group Destination Elevated announces their first official 2024 Trail of Colors National Hiking Tour Fundraising Partnership with local Miami non-profit PRISM. The LGBTQ youth advocacy organization, PRISM,  “works to expand access to LGBTQ-inclusive education and sexual health resources for youth in South Florida.” Since 2020, the organization has provided sexual health resources and advocated for queer youth and LGBTQ rights through grassroots action at local and state levels.

PRISM’s recent Letter Writing Campaign calls the public to action in a gesture to sway the minds of local and state legislatures. The campaign is a response to a memo “that was leaked from the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles that effectively bans trans people from changing their ID or driver’s license to accurately represent their gender identity.” Florida’s LGBTQ Rights have been under attack far too long and organizations like PRISM hopes to empower others to take action.

Destination Elevated’s initiative to bring visibility to local non-profit organizations who serve BIPOC & LGBTQ youth resulted in the unique partnership for the tour. The partnership seeks to raise funding for local youth programming, outreach, hiking equipment, and outdoor safety training in underserved areas. Considering the level of stress and trauma one has to endure existing as a black or lgbtq person and having your right to simply exist stripped away—inclusive healing spaces are needed just as much now as they were in the past.

Co-Founder of Destination Elevated, Fame Neal, explains: “LGBTQ and BIPOC Folk are seeking alternative ways to manage their healthcare and mental wellness since they are not able to access these spaces as their whole selves. This means going back to indigenous practices and natural healing versus participating in non-inclusive healthcare. This is why organizations like PRISM are so important. They provide critical access to health testing these folk might not otherwise have access to.”

The Trail of Colors Hiking Tour will provide an LGBTQ-Inclusive experience for participants in an effort to broaden the scope of safe, wellness spaces available to the South Florida Community.

PRISM will receive 100% of proceeds from the Roots of Renewal Walk co-hosted by Forest Bath Miami in association with the 2024 Trail of Colors National Hiking Tour. Organizers hope to connect local outdoors and wellness organizations as well as provide a channel for much-needed community action.

During the Roots of Renewal Walk & Fundraiser on February 24th, guests will explore Dr. Von D. Mizell-Eula Johnson State Park in Fort Lauderdale. The location is a piece of South Florida Black History as it was commemorated in honor of Civil Rights Movement leaders who led the “Wade-In” Protests to desegregate South Florida beaches.

The beachside park is just south of Port Everglades and is the last example of an undeveloped coastal ecosystem in Broward County. Vanessa Yvette, the founder of Forest Bath Miami, describes the chosen site as “powerful, holding deep remembrance.” The Barrier Island Nature Trail is suitable for inexperienced explorers and consists of walking along Whiskey Creek and the area’s thriving Mangroves.

The Trail of Colors Hiking Tour seeks to unite outdoor enthusiasts of color as well as allies from all over the U.S. Outdoor groups and individuals are invited to participate and can access sliding scale registration and group discounts. While the mission is to fundraise, the Destination Elevated team also wants to bring visibility to the local outdoor and non-profit organizations they partner with.

Scheduled events will incorporate wellness and mindfulness initiatives that include the implementation of Indigenous Land Recognition, Sound Baths, Grounding Techniques, and more. Activities are subject to change by location and availability.
